Snake plant

Did you know that Sansevieria aka snake plant aka mother-in-law's tongue can purify the air in your home and does so at night?! Snake plant absorbs carbon dioxide and other toxins and releases oxygen while your sleeping! It’s great to have these awesome plants in your bedroom, especially if you or loved ones have respiratory issues such as asthma or allergies.

The NASA Clean Air Study identified snake plant, aloe vera, peace lily, bamboo palm, rubber plant, philodendron, plus two dozen more as plants that provide a natural way to remove toxins such as benzene, formaldehyde, and toluene and neutralize the effects of sick building syndrome. So cool! Fill your home and office with these awesome air purifying plants! The NASA study recommend that you use at least one plant for every 100 square feet of home or office.

A TED talk by Kamal Meattle (How to grow fresh air) discusses how sufficient quantities of three common houseplants (areca palm, mother-in-law's tongue/snake plant and money plant/philodendron) can significantly change the air quality in your home or office. He himself had success with these plants to reverse his severe allergies partially caused by the poor air quality of Delhi, India.
