IT'S BERRY SEASON!


Berries by themselves make an excellent alternative to processed, excessively sweet desserts. They are naturally sweet, so you don't need to add sugar. They are also packed full of antioxidants and polyphenols important for your heart and brain, and they help prevent against cancer, Alzheimer's, and many other chronic diseases.

If you're making a berry dessert such as a cobbler, consider adding nuts like pistachios, almonds or pecans for even more heart- and brain-healthy nutrients. Also, consider cutting down the amount of recommended sugar in the recipe (or omitting it altogether). You'll be pleasantly surprised at how the natural berry flavors come alive!

One thing to note is that conventional berries contain high amounts of harmful pesticides so make sure to buy your berries organic, especially for kids. Yes, they are more expensive, but your heart and brain will thank you later!
