The fall is a time of transition from the hot, dry days of summer to the cold, wet days of winter. Naturally, your body wants to slow down, go inward, and be surrounded by warm, soothing food and drinks.

During seasonal changes, your body is adjusting to this big transition as well. It is wise to support this transition with a digestive pause such as a fast or a cleanse. By doing so, your body will smoothly transition into the new season and be better prepared to fight off colds and flus.

The fall is known for its time of turning inward  as the days become shorter and the nights longer. A fall cleanse is aimed at lightening the body and helping the body to rid itself of toxins as we prepare for the winter months.

We all tend to indulge more sugar, alcohol, and other food and drink that tend to disrupt our system in the summer. Am I right? The fall is a great time to cleanse the toxins of the summer, get grounded again and get back to eating more intuitively. This fall cleanse will introduce us to eating fuller, richer, and more heat-producing foods/herbs that will carry us through the chilly months of late autumn and winter.

A cleanse is a digestive pause. It may include a fast, but it does not have to.

A cleanse is eating a diet of in-season, whole foods that are devoid of chemicals, preservatives, pesticides, and other toxins. Nourishing your body this way supports the natural detoxification pathways in your body. Sounds pretty simple, right? It is!

In our modern world, we are surrounded by environmental toxins, stress, and unhealthy relationships that can disrupt our whole system. Our body is designed to detox and handle these stressors. However, when these insults become too much for the body to keep up, they can zap our energy, throw off our digestion, aggravate our nervous system, and contribute to hormonal imbalance, among other unwelcome effects.

It is important to take time to reduce our exposures to these insults as best we can and tune in to what our body really needs. At the same time, eat foods and do practices that help us detoxify and get rid of toxins so they do not build up and cause unwanted symptoms in our body. We can then regain energy and maintain a healthy, optimally functioning body - physically, mentally, and spiritually. Some of the cleanse-enhancing practices include castor oil packs, dry skin brushing, meditation and intentional breathing exercises.

Finally, as the earth transitions from one season to the next, our body is also going through transitions that match the earth's. It is vitally important to support these transitions within our body and cater a cleanse to meet the needs of the various organ systems that are associated with that time of year. This is why cleanses typically occur around the time of seasonal changes.

Autumn, like the spring, is one of the most important times to cleanse the body.

This year, the autumn equinox is on September 22 in the Northern Hemisphere. This is the day that the sun passes over the equator from north to south. This particular cleanse will start on the following Saturday, September 26.

The earth's element Metal is associated with autumn. It represents the mineral ores and salts of the earth. Each season is also associated with two major organ systems. The lungs and the large intestine are the two organs associated with the fall and these are the organs that we will focus on cleansing during this time.

If you have digestive issues or if you suffer from frequent colds or lung infections in the winter, the fall is the time to prepare yourself for staying healthy and strong during the winter.

I look forward to you joining me during this fall cleanse.

"It's a great opportunity to do an internal retreat for the body, listen to and honor its needs and wisdom, learn lots about how we can be healthy with ourselves, and develop a resource we can take advantage of from time to time."

"I think it is good to cut out things & cleanse the toxins out occasionally. And I think it's also good mentally to retrain your mind and learn you can live with out certain things."
